Sometimes photographers get caught up in needing to have the latest and greatest equipment (cameras, flashes, studio equipment...etc.). I know I have been guilty of that more than a few times. But during my last shoot I was reminded that it's not always about having the newest, best equipment.

During our post-wedding session, my wife took a dozen or so shots with her Holga camera, which can be purchased for under $100. Holgas can definitely be hit and miss cameras. There are plenty of times a roll (yes, it uses film) comes back with no good images. But when it's on, there's nothing quite like it. The shot of me hard at work to the right as well as the shot at the end of this post were taken with the Holga and they are fabulous.

That said, I'd still love the Canon 5d mark ii. Guess some things never change. :)

Fresh off my photography retreat I was motivated to have a shoot that really upped the fashion intensity. I found a great model with really strong eyes (Meagan) and a stylist/make-up artist who really knows how to bring the drama, and of course my lovely assistant/wife Chassie who kept the creative juices flowing throughout the shoot. We made a great team and I'm thrilled with the results!

This past weekend I had the privilege of shooting newlyweds Bill and Ammie at the dry lake bed just outside of town. I shot their wedding a few weeks back but held off on a blog post because I was really excited about our post wedding shoot - and I'm glad I did. The weather was perfect (well maybe not perfect because it was really cold - but we got some amazing clouds), the company was fantastic and I can now finally say I've shot at the dry lake bed, which I believe is a prerequisite to being a Las Vegas photographer. Special thanks to Ammie for braving the cold, Bill for looking like my brother and my wife for rocking the holga and getting the amazing pictures seen in my bio at the top and also the last image in this series.
